During this session the speaker will present a number of breast cancer cases. They will work through epidemiology, disease presentation, the rationale for choosing treatment pathways, symptom management and management of specific side effects of breast cancer treatment. Participants will be expected to interact and discuss the decision-making process including dose modifications, supportive care requirements and patient education.

At the end of this session participants should have an understanding of the presentation and diagnosis of breast cancer. The participants will be able to discuss and understand treatment options available to patients with breast cancer.

Dan Mellor is the Deputy Director of Pharmacy at Peter Mac. He is currently completing a PhD in Cancer Pharmacogenomics and also holds a post-graduate qualification in clinical oncology research. Dan is Chair of the COSA Cancer Pharmacists Group and a member of the COSA Council. Dan is frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences. He is an active researcher authoring 11 peer-reviewed publications and 25 conference abstracts. Dan’s achievements have been recognized by the SHPA when he became the 2012 recipient of the William Mercer Young Achiever’s Award recognising an outstanding contribution to hospital pharmacy.
